Vice Admiral Thomas Nelson, considered the “Father of Starfleet”, is the current Starfleet Chief of Staff.  He served as the first Director (later Chief) of Starfleet Operations, was the first commissioned Starfleet officer, the first flag officer, and the first Chief of Staff.  Born 2083 in Miami, Florida, Dr. Nelson briefly served in the United Nations space fleet as a science officer before transferring to the United Earth Space Probe Agency in 2112.  He next trained as a ship’s officer, serving in various positions onboard UESPA spacecraft, becoming a Captain in 2126.  In 2128 he transferred to the UESPA headquarters staff and in 2130 was appointed as Operations Division Chief, quickly promoted afterwards to the role of Deputy Administrator for Operations.
In 2135, Dr. Nelson was selected to form a new group called “Starfleet” within UESPA Operations.  He originally began with a small office of twenty personnel and from here expanded Starfleet into a vast organization.  Relocating to San Francisco in 2137, following the construction of Starfleet Headquarters, Dr. Nelson has since overseen the commissioning of Starfleet’s first space vessels, an expansion of its facilities, and integration with both UESPA and MACO.  In 2148, he was awarded Starfleet’s highest decoration, the Starfleet Distinguished Service Medal, for his contributions to the creation and expansion of Starfleet.
