Starfleet Survival Training is designed to instruct on prolonged survival in adverse and hostile environmental conditions, with emphasis on sustaining health with only local resources, and navigating through hostile terrain to a successful rescue. The course was first offered in December 2143 and begins with a brief classroom instruction followed by a deployment to either a desert or jungle training area on Earth. The three primary training areas are the Australian Outback, Death Valley in California, and the western Amazon rainforest.
