The Starfleet Drill Instructor Course was established in December 2144 at Alice Springs, Australia and was designed to train potential drill instructors for the continued increase of Starfleet recruits over the next several years. The cadre members of the course, and its first students, were all prior service MACO already serving as Starfleet drill instructors. The course stressed unit drills, individual instruction, as well as physical fitness.
