Alpha Centauri is most famous for being the last known location of Zefram Cochrane, the celebrated inventor of the warp drive, before his disappearance in 2119. Cochrane had traveled to Alpha Centauri stating he wished to retire there; however, a month later, he piloted a one-man experimental craft into unexplored space. He was declared missing six months later, and dead in 2123.
