Vega IX is a colony world of Earth, first founded in 2106 by a Neo-Separatist group led by Alexander Vanderbilt. The colony grew significantly in the 2020s as a result of Earth Cargo vessels bringing both new colonists and supplies. Because of its distance from Earth, the Vega Colony is considered a nominally independent world.
The surface of Vega IX
Vega IX is located on the edge of explored space, on the perimeter of the Earth Cargo Service space lanes, and borders the space of Denobulans who frequently visit and trade with the world. In the 2130s, the Deltans made first contact with Vega IX and afterwards sent the first Deltan diplomatic delegation to Earth. For the first thirty years of its existence, Vega Colony was technically under the authority of the United Earth Bureau of Colonization, but in practice operated as independent world. Even so, Earth maintained close contact with Vega Colony to avoid a repeat of the failed Terra Nova expedition, in which an entire colony was lost after breaking off contact with Earth. Vega IX has a government similar to Earth, with a Planetary Chancellor, Legislator, and an independent court system. Vega Colony also possesses a small planetary defense force as well as a basic space program.
The planet has significant archeological sites, as Vega IX was once the homeworld of the “Vegan Tyranny”, lead by a now extinct race which controlled the space around Alpha Lyra from the seventh century until the early 2000s.
