Ceres is the largest asteroid in the Sol star system and is considered a dwarf planet under the revised planetary classification system. Ceres was first visited by Earth spacecraft in 2015 when the Dawn space probe surveyed both Ceres and the smaller asteroid Vesta. Ceres had long been sought out for robotic mining expeditions, however the onset of World War III halted any further asteroid missions and it was not until 2106 when another attempt was made to reach Ceres.

By 2109, an automated mining station had been established on Ceres with the primary mineral export being Ammoniated phyllosilicates and Carbonates. In 2122, a manned mining station was founded, with a permanent workforce of approximately eighty personnel, who coordinated mining on both Ceres and nearby smaller asteroids.
Ceres and associated asteroids
The most recent addition to the Ceres surface is a small scientific outpost manned by a dozen researchers attached to the United Earth Ministry of Science. This outpost primarily conducts experiments into Fe-oxides, Volatiles, and Pyroxene, all of which Ceres possesses in abundance.
