The research station on Enceladus was founded in 2128 in the hopes of locating similar life and phenomenon as had been previously observed on Europa. While no lifeforms were located on Enceladus, the moon nevertheless hosts as assortment of thermal flumes as a result of sub-surface thermal activity in an ocean below the frozen surface. Since then, the United Earth Ministry of Science has constructed several thermal monitoring stations across the moon’s surface to monitor geothermal activity.
Enceladus receives most of its supplies and personnel transfers from nearby Titan, with shuttles from that moon the primary means of reaching Enceladus. The research outpost station typically has a maximum capacity of fifty personnel, of which twenty to twenty-five are permanently assigned support personnel. Researchers visiting Enceladus typically remain for six to eight months, depending upon the rotation of the supply ships from Titan.
