CHAPTER ONE
STARFLEET SECURITY FORCES
An overview of Starfleet Security, outlining the organization and general requirements for assignment to Starfleet Security billets
SECURITY OFFICERS
Commissioned Security Officers typically hold prior service as an officer in either MACO or another branch of the United Earth military where space infantry training has been received. Commissioning of civilian personnel and lateral transfers from other Starfleet branches was first authorized in the early 2140s.
SECURITY GUARDS
General enlistment as a Starfleet Crewman with billets in the Security Guard profession are preferred from prior enlisted service in MACO. All other applicants may be assigned Security billets based on physical examination results and aptitude testing from the Starfleet Crewman Entrance Test.
CHAPTER TWO
STARFLEET FACILITY SECURITY
Facilities operating with a permanent security force shall be overseen by a Duty Security Officer who commands the facility's security response team, compromised of several Security Team Members. These positions to be appointed by the facility commanding officer per procedures of the Starfleet Administrative Manual.

Starfleet facilities possessing a full armory may also be expanded to include a weapons qualification range. All personnel assigned to provide instruction and testing on a Starfleet weapons range must be assigned to a Starfleet security billet and hold expert qualification and repair licenses for all weapons available for qualification on the range. A Starfleet Range Master will be appointed by the facility commanding officer to oversee all operations on the weapons range.
Qualification ranges for Starfleet sidearms, as determined by range qualification score, are as follows:
Expert (95% proficiency or higher)
Sharpshooter (85-94% proficiency)
CHAPTER FOUR
DRILL INSTRUCTION
Marksman (75-84% proficiency)
Starfleet Security is the appointed agency for the administration of Starfleet drill and training to all basic training recruits and officer candidates. The position of Drill Instructor is an appointed position by direction of the Officer-in-Charge of a respective training school. The three levels of Drill Instructor Appointment are:

BRIG OPERATIONS

Should a Starfleet facility contain a Brig, the additional duty position of Brig Duty Officer will be appointed per the provisions of Starfleet Security Order #15. Brig facilities shall be categorized in one of five levels, depending upon the length of brig incarceration.
Level 1: 24–72-hour confinement
Level 2: Confinement of 4 – 30 days
Level 3: Confinement of 31 – 90 days
Level 4: Confinement in excess of 90 days
Level 5: Long term confinement
