STARFLEET ENGINEERING COMPLEX

The Starfleet Engineering Complex was formally opened on February 17, 2140, as the headquarters for Starfleet Engineering as well as a flight-testing facility capable of launching experimental warp craft into Earth orbit.

On January 17th 2139, groundbreaking occurred to the west of Starfleet Headquarters for a new engineering complex for the design and development of new warp propulsion systems.  Following the formal opening of the Starfleet Engineering Complex in February 2140, the Office of Special Projects, a branch of Starfleet Operations, became a tenant agency of the Starfleet Engineering Complex nine months later in order to oversee the development of the NX Project.  The first warp test ship, the Type 3 Warp Test Craft, was constructed in March 2141.  In June 2142, construction began on a new series of  buildings to house additional scientific facilities.
