Al Rijil is the outermost planet of the Alpha Centauri star system and the only planet of the Alpha Centauri-Alpha Proxima star system to support native life. The planet Al Rijil is inhabited by a native race which United Earth scientists simply refer to as the Centaurians. The planet possesses rudimentary early space travel with a social rating of approximately Earth equivalent to 1995. By scientific agreement between the various Earth nations and Vulcan, a quarantine zone exists around Al Rijil to allow the society there to develop naturally.

The space station “Port Centauri” operates as a cargo transfer point and way station for Earth spaceships in the Centauri system while a small scientific team inhabits the station to monitor the civilization on the nearby planet Al-Rijil.
