Rigel II is a major world of the Beta Rigel system, the second member world of the Rigelian Trade Consortium after the Rigelian homeworld of Rigelia. Then planet hosts several tropical islands along its equator, with two major continents straddling the poles.

The original colonization of Rigel II took place centuries in the past, before Rigelia itself was a united world. For a period of approximately three hundred years, Rigel II and Rigelia were separate political entities which even led to a war in the 16th century. By the 1800s however, the two planets had combined into the “Rigel Union”. Upon the formation of the Rigelian Trade Consortium, the two planets were co-signers of the founding trade agreements and since then have been considered as a single united interstellar government.
Rigel II is best known for its stunning beauty, with most of the islands in the equatorial zone developed as resort attractions, including several casinos, cabarets, and seaside spas. The routine planetary affairs, including industry and agriculture, focuses entirely on the two main continents in the northern and southern hemisphere. Major cities are governed by democratic councils while the planet itself is overseen by a Governor, elected by the populus, and a planetary legislative branch. The Governor of Rigel II is technically subordinate to the Supreme Trade Council on Rigelia, however is generally allowed to independently oversee planetary affairs.
