Luna (also known as "The Moon") is the only natural satellite of Earth and the first extra solar world visited by the human race. The first manned moon landing occurred in 1969, followed by various follow-up missions in the 1970s. A return to the Moon was accomplished by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 2027, however further moon missions were suspended due to the Third World War. Moon missions would resume in the 2060s with the first lunar colony of New Berlin established in 2067.

GOVERNMENT AND ADMINISTRATION
Luna is ultimately overseen by the United Earth Bureau of Colonization which also hold authority over the colonies on Mars and Titan. In the early days of lunar colonization, the Bureau held considerably power over lunar affairs; however, by 2115, most lunar colonies were acting with near autonomy under colony charters with United Earth. Each lunar colony dome holds an independent charter with the United Earth and elects a Dome Chief Executive and a council of citizens to run day to day affairs.

Each lunar colony dome holds an independent charter with the United Earth and elects a Dome Chief Executive and a council of citizens to run day to day affairs. A "Moon Council", of all the colony leadership technically exists, but rarely forms and is designed only to deal with lunar wide emergencies.
MAJOR LUNAR COLONIES
New Berlin
The largest colony on the Moon and considered the "first" lunar colony, although Lunar Colony One is technically older. Due to its large size and ability to host the Moon Council, New Berlin is considered the capital of Luna. New Berlin was founded in 2069.

Armstrong City
Armstrong City was founded in the early twenty second century and is considered the first of the "new age" lunar colony domes, established after the end of the Third World War.
Lunar Colony One
Lunar Colony One began as a scientific research outpost in 2027, following the first manned return to the moon by NASA since the 1970s. Known as "Lunar Outpost One", the installation achieved colony status in 2132.

LUNAR INSTALLATIONS
Lunaport
Lunaport is a major facility operated by the United Earth Space Probe Agency and is the primary trade and spaceport for the moon. The facility was first established in 2127 and rapidly grew to encompass a UESPA administration facility and, after the year 2132, the primary training center for UESPA flight school (prior to this, the facility was located at Houston on Earth, which still retains the UESPA flight ground school).

The training center at UESPA contains a full simulator for space flight instruction, classroom facilities, a flight center and launch ramp for warp training craft, as well as an environmental simulator for EVA training and certification. The EVA simulator at Lunaport has since become known by its nickname "the Vomitorium" due to some of the simulator's more advanced settings and training programs.
Orpheus Mining Complex
The Orpheus Mining Complex was first constructed in 2090 as a major mineral and ore processing center to extract rare and precious metals from the lunar sub-surface. The facility was designed to launch into orbit and relocate once minerals were exhausted and a new mining site was required.

The first and only time this was attempted was in 2032 when the complex was relocated to its current location on the Moon. Unfortunately, the move damaged the facility and was not until 2146 that full operations had resumed.
Starfleet Facilities
Starfleet currently operates three recruiting stations on the moon under the authority of the Sol Recruiting District. These facilities are small offices of between three to six Starfleet recruiting personnel and were first established in 2145.
