Training Structure

In May 2142, the Starfleet Officer Candidate Course began utilizing a three-phase training system where Officer Candidates would hold leadership positions during the final stages of Officer Training.  Under this system, the first three weeks of officer training mirrors Starfleet Basic Training where the Officer Candidates are referred to as Recruit and undergo instruction in basic drill.

During the second phase, in which Officer Candidates are issued white divisional pipping for their uniforms, the Officer Candidate is referred to as "Trainee" and attends mostly classroom instruction.  The third and final phase, the Officer Candidate is called by their full rank of Officer Candidate and issued coloring for their uniforms in accordance with their designator selection.
