The Vulcan Confederation is the governing authority of the planet Vulcan and the surrounding space of the 40 Eridani star system. Essentially a military dictatorship, the Confederation is overseen by the Vulcan High Command which is a military tribunal appointed by its own members. The vast majority of Vulcans approve of this government since, although not democratic, it is presumed that logically only the most capable of Vulcans will be appointed to the High Command.
Organization of the Vulcan Government
The Vulcan Space Force is the primary enforcement arm of the High Command, and the Administrator of the High Command frequently serves in the dual role as the Commander of the Vulcan Space Fleet.

The Vulcan Diplomatic Corps serves as the primary liaison authority between Vulcan and Earth. The two planets share several trade and research treaties, including the controversial "Treaty for Scientific Permission" in which Vulcan offered to provide scientific assistance concerning warp flight tests in exchange for Earth curtailing its warp program and proceeding only with Vulcan approval.
